When are you open? What do "start times" mean? Are there "end times"?
From Memorial Day to Labor Day we are open 7 days a week. Before and after we are open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only.
“Start Times” are the times that we leave from our location to bring people the launch point. These 4 daily Start Time; 9, 11, 1, & 3, are the only times that we bring people to the river. If you would like to use our services you must have either booked or reserved at least 30 minutes before a start time and arrived 10 minutes before.
There are no set “end times” as you end only a 2 minute ride back to where you are parked. We do need all paddlers off the water before the sun starts to set.
What experience level is needed for this trip? Are there any rapids?
This trip is perfect for all experience levels. There are no rapids and guests receive a safety orientation and personal flotation devices (life jackets). The one thing to watch out for when planning a trip on the St. Croix is a strong south wind which can make the paddle much more challenging.
Do I need to make a reservation? If I just show up will I be able to rent a canoe or kayak?
Riverwood Canoe strongly suggests that guests make reservations. Our mission is to provide a fun, worry free experience on the river and we plan our day around our guests so having a reservation helps us provide you with exceptional service. Reservations can be made up to 30 minutes before a start time.
When you arrive 10 minutes before your start time we will have the boats you reserved already loaded on the trailer for you so all you will need to do is check in and be ready for fun.
What is your cancellation policy? What happens if it's stormy on the day of our trip?
Our guests are welcome to cancel their reservation for any reason and at any time. 100% Refund if you have pre-paid, no questions asked. Simply give us a call and let us know you will not be making it. We are also happy to reschedule your trip for another day or time. In the case of inclement weather we are also very flexible and work together with you to make a calculated decision on if it is wise to go or delay the trip.
When do we pay for the rental? Is cash okay? Do you accept credit cards?
There are 2 ways to pay: Online with a credit card when making a reservation or with cash or credit card when you arrive at Riverwood before your trip. When reserving over the phone we do not require a payment.
Option 1 : Book Online, pay ahead.
Option 2: Call to reserve, pay in person.
Do you have places to change clothes? What do we do with personal belongings?
We do not have a public restroom or changing room at our check-in location. There are restrooms at both the launch site and take-out point on the river. Also, there are nearby public restrooms in town Osceola. We recommend arriving wearing the clothes you plan to paddle in and having had stopped to use restrooms on the way.
We do not have storage or lockers for personal items, please plan accordingly.
Can I bring my dog? Can I bring a cooler or other gear?
Dogs are allowed as long as they do not pose any sort of threat to humans. The amount of space available for coolers and other gear is limited, however we do our best to make room for it. GLASS IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE RIVER.
How many people fit in a Canoe?
There is not one simple answer to this question. We like to say 2-3 adults. All of our canoes have 2 seats, often a third person will ride in the middle on the bottom of the boat. With small children it is possible to up to 5 in a canoe (2 adults and 3 small children). Keep in mind that there are 2 seats, one in front and one in back, and all other paddlers will be riding on the floor in the middle.
We have our own boats, can we pay you to transport us with our own vessels?
No, if you are not also renting from us. If you are a rental customer we can usually work out a way to make your day easy and fun. Please call ahead to discuss the details. Our prices are the best around and we make the day tremendously worry free, you may choose to leave that old canoe behind the garage and use one of ours 😉
How long will this trip take? Are there places to stop along the way?
Guests usually arrive at their destination, The Osceola Landing, 2-3 hours after they begin paddling. There are plenty of rock islands, sand bars and campsites where guests can stop along the way. Of course, stopping can increase the amount of time the trip takes.
Do people really Stand Up Paddle Board for 7 miles? Do you recommend trying SUP's if we have no experience?
Experienced SUP paddlers typically have no problem using our SUP’s for 7 miles. Not everyone is ready for this type of SUP experience, if you have never tried it we recommend sticking with Kayaks or Canoes for this type of river adventure. If you have questions about SUP’s please contact us, we are glad to help make the nest decision with you.
